Municipal Law

The Firm has represented several of the municipalities on the Mississippi Gulf Coast and in south Mississippi (including Bay St. Louis, D'Iberville, Wiggins, Leakesville, Moss Point, Pascagoula, and Pass Christian). It has also represented various municipal agencies, municipal employees and officials, and subdivisions of the State of Mississippi. The Firm has litigated a broad range of issues affecting municipalities and their employees, including personal injury claims, claims under 42 U.S.C. section 1983, workers' compensation claims and annexation proceedings. Members of the Firm have been selected by the Mississippi Tort Claims Board to represent the State of Mississippi and its various subdivisions in tort lawsuits. Brown Buchanan has represented the Pascagoula Municipal Separate School District, the Housing Authority of the City of Biloxi, the City of D’Iberville, the Mississippi Occupational Therapy Association (MSOTA) and the Jackson County Economic Development Foundation. The representation of these clients has involved experience working with governmental entities, working with governmental regulations and lobbying efforts. Two (2) of the Firm's attorneys, Raymond L. Brown and Patrick R. Buchanan, are panel attorneys for the Mississippi Tort Claims Board. The work for the Mississippi Tort Claims Board has involved the representation of governmental entities under the Mississippi Tort Claims Act.
